Medical oncologist and hematologist Ryan Roop, MD, joined the team at Logan Health Hematology & Oncology in September 2013. The Phoenix, Arizona, native followed his baccalaureate in biochemistry with medical schooling at the University of Arizona in Tucson. He realized early on in medical school that he wanted to be an oncologist. He felt deeply enriched when helping others through a difficult time, and he enjoyed the challenge of treating a complex disease. During his internal medicine residency at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, positive interactions with cancer patients solidified this direction. Dr. Roop was chosen for a fellowship in hematology and oncology at Washington University, where he also served as chief fellow. He conducted clinical research in breast cancer and lymphoma, gaining insight into how new treatments are developed. He was drawn to practicing in a community setting, where he can focus on patient care and treat many types of cancer. His practice with Logan Health began immediately after his fellowship. Dr. Roop and his wife, a pharmacist, have one daughter, born in 2012. In their free time, they pursue a number of outdoor activities – he is particularly interested in downhill skiing, and she likes hiking and backpacking.
