General and trauma surgeon, James Cromie, MD, FACS joined Logan Health Surgical Clinic in April 2021. Originally from Rutland, VT, Dr. Cromie earned his Bachelor’s in Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Colorado, Boulder. He then attended medical school at the University of Colorado, Denver where he also completed his residency. He currently serves as Medical Director for Surgical Quality at Logan Health.
Dr. Cromie specializes in minimally invasive and robotic surgery, as well as abdominal wall reconstruction, gastrointestinal, and endocrine surgery. He has a particular interest in complex ventral hernia repairs as well as foregut surgery , including anti-reflux procedures , management of hiatal hernias and esophageal disorders such as achalasia. He is one of the only surgeons in Montana who performs transoral incisionless fundoplication (TIF), which is an endoscopic treatment option for patients with GERD.
Having received various teaching awards, he has a keen interest in nursing education, and the development of streamlined care pathways for patients in an effort to continually improve the quality of care provided. He also has a commitment to increasing rural access to surgical care, both domestically and internationally and has worked in areas of need throughout the world. Dr. Cromie was inspired to pursue medicine by his mother, who was a nurse.
