On Wednesday, October 16, Logan Health Children’s Child Life Specialist and Supervisor Amy Rohyans Stewart and Spirit Halloween store manager Steve Lerum were met with bright smiles as they rolled costume carts around to pediatric patients at the children’s hospital. Pediatric patients and their families had the opportunity to browse racks of a wide variety of costumes and pick one out in their size. They were also invited to choose costumes for their siblings, whether at home or present. After picking out the perfect costume, each child celebrated in their own way – with smiles, laughter and even some enthusiastic dance moves. For everyone witnessing their joy, it was clear that Spirit Halloween and Logan Health Children’s had succeeded at their mission in making hospital stays less scary for kids.
Providing costumes is just one part of the partnership between Spirit Halloween and Logan Health Children’s. The fall fundraiser Spirit of Children supports Child Life departments in local hospitals across the nation and has raised over $119,403 for Logan Health Children’s over the last five years. Child Life is a specialized program to help pediatric patients and their families cope with the challenges of hospitalization. Child Life specialists provide age-appropriate therapeutic play, education and psychological preparation for procedures, focused sibling support and much more all to help reduce fear, anxiety and pain for children and families. By supporting this program, Spirit Halloween is taking an active role in helping young patients and their families across Montana.
