Endocrinologist Jose C. de Souza, MD, practices at Logan Health Endocrinology & Infectious Disease. Dr. de Souza received his initial medical training in Brazil then, after moving to the U.S. in 1989, he served as a research fellow in endocrinology at the University of Utah. He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Saint Luke’s Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1998 he completed a fellowship in endocrinology from the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. While the majority of Dr. de Souza’s practice includes the medical management of patients with diabetes, he also treats patients with thyroid and other metabolic disorders. Dr. de Souza believes he should set a positive example for his patients by observing healthy habits, including a proper diet and exercise. He regularly participates in Ironman triathlons (swimming, biking and running), in which he achieved his personal best time of 12 hours and 34 minutes. He and his wife, Mary, have two sons, Daniel and Gustavo “Gus.”
